Mar 30, 2008, Announcing The SCRIPT Award

To celebrate its 10th Anniversary, SCRIPT has created a new Canadian writing award with a prize value of $1,000 – The SCRIPT Award! The SCRIPT Award was launched on Hug-A-Writer Day (January 24), an annual holiday created by SCRIPT last year to celebrate the great work done by writers.

The award is designed to find scientifically minded people who are also great creative thinkers. That’s you! We know you‘re up for the challenge! The task? To write a “mini epic” in exactly 100 words. Any topic is acceptable – scientific, non-scientific, humorous or serious. We’re looking for original ideas expressed powerfully.

And please feel free to pass along this information to anyone you feel may also be interested in participating in the SCRIPT Award!

Door to Unger receives Award Nomination
Submitted by Lee Fodi

The Kendra Kandlestar books continue to grow in popularity and sell well. I'm continually thrilled with the response that these books get, not only from kids, but from teachers and critics.

The latest literary honor comes in the form of an award nomination. Kendra Kandlestar and the Door to Unger has been nominated for a Cybil Science/Fiction award. Coincidentally, fellow author James McCann has also been nominated. Thankfully, our books are in different categories, so my little Eens don't have to directly battle his vampires and werewolves. Who do you think would win?

Special thanks goes to Mark Blevis of Just One More Book for nominating Kendra Kandlestar for this award.

Mar 25, 2008, Book Launch Blue Bonnet Girl

BY
DOT SCOTT

Press Release: Gibsons, BC

When eighteen-year-old Daisy Quarterman's love of humanity and yearning for adventure prompt her to leave behind her family and friends in England to become a Salvation Army missionary in South Africa in l896, her life changes forever. She soon finds herself caught up in the bitter conflict of the Anglo-Boer War in 1899, forcing her to make some far-reaching decisions.

And when she meets the love of her life she wonders how long this war will keep them apart. Will their faith sustain them through all the turmoil, achievements and heartache as they go about their daily lives in a beautiful, restless country?

If you relish reading books that leave you inspired and uplifted, this is the book for you. Appropriate for any adult member of your family, this book would be a wonderful gift for a young person beginning to make their mark in life.
Cathie Roy, Coast Reporter.

Daisy's story is a powerful reminder of the triumph of the human spirit. We exult with her when she finds her calling, weep with her in times of hardship and celebrate her many triumphs. Spanning more than ninety years across two continents and set against the Boer War and two World Wars, it is more than just the story of an exceptional woman. It touches on the history of the Salvation Army she so faithfully served, and on the 'dark continent' in which it takes place. This is an inspirational story dear to the author's heart. It has become so to mine as well, and so, I am certain, it will to yours.
Niv Harris MA.
