1. Use the days
Every day is someone’s birthday, someone else’s first day at work, another person’s worst day ever. In other words, every day is special. While we are considering days, Happy Oreo Cookie Day!

This issue suggests you consider what might be special about any day in two different ways.

First, use sites like that listed below under Interesting Web site to find interesting days to use as the basis or a support for a story. Consider these gems: National Caffeine Awareness month, World Rattlesnake Roundup, and Sock Monkey Day. All are real times noted in the month of March. How can you incorporate a special day in your story. (If you want to write for magazines, you usually have to get your story ready at least six months in advance.)

Second, think of your published story, and hunt through one of the online calendars for celebration days you can link to that story. Use those days to help you market your book. How can you draw attention to your book on that day or week or month? Try a local press release or offer a workshop on a topic that ties your book to the calendar.

If you open this on March 6, enjoy an Oreo cookie just because.
