1. How to Avoid Offending People When Marketing on Facebook

When I started using Facebook, I knew next to nothing about how it worked. I do not remember how I came across editor Wendy Reis, but I do remember how kind she was to me, answering all my newbie questions and helping me to avoid some offensive behaviour through ignorance.

When I asked Wendy to share her top three tips with you, she agreed at once. Here they are:

Social networking is a boon to marketing when used correctly. You can make enemies and even damage your bottom line by ignoring etiquette in the virtual world that you would never overlook in your normal day to day encounters.
  • A person’s Timeline is his private property. If you would not put a billboard for your book or product on the lawn in front of his house, do not assume his Timeline is your personal advertising space either. (I have my privacy settings configured to prevent anyone posting on my Timeline for that very reason.)
  • Do not add people to Facebook groups without their knowledge or consent. They will not only leave the group, they may unfriend you.
  • “Like fests” are getting out of hand. The numbers mean nothing now. Don’t agree to like a page so the page owner will like yours. I never like an author page if I have not read the author’s work. It amounts to a stamp of approval, and it can backfire on you.

2.Tickled my funnybone
Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.

3. Interesting Web site
Wendy's Facebook page is a great example of how to create a positive image online. I learned as much from her example as I did from her answers to specific questions.
