The Writing Contest
Everyone Wins

Specifications: Write a piece that uses a vocabulary of 50 words. Write in any genre for any age group.

Submission Requirements:
  • An original, unpublished piece not accepted by any publisher at the time of submission.
  • Must have fewer than 1,000 words, typed double-spaced on 8 1/2 X 11 inch paper.
  • Must be accompanied by the Editor's Choice contest entry form. This is a pdf file you will download and print out.
  • All following pages must have only the title of the piece as identification.
  • Must be accompanied by an alphabetical vocabulary list of the 50 words.
  • Must be accompanied by an entry fee of CA$5.00, made payable to Steppingstone Resources. American and other international entrants are asked to send international postal money orders for CA$5.00. If you have questions about how to pay, please ask through the contact form on this page.
  • Multiple entries are allowed. Each must be submitted with its own fee.
  • Must be free of pornographic content and must not promote racism or sexism. As young writers visit this site, strong language may be edited from published pieces.
  • Must be postmarked by June 30, 2011.

Judging: An independent reader will open and record all entries. Each entry will be given an identifying number. The editor, Audrey Owen, will read and judge each entry. Her decision is final.

Winners: The winner will be announced on this site by July 15, 2011. All writing contest entrants will receive a brief critique (approximately 100 words) by Audrey Owen. First place prize in this writing contest is a choice of
EITHER $100.00 CDN
OR a credit of $100.00 CDN on future editing.

Steppingstone Resources receives first rights to the prize-winning manuscript. The winning entry is posted on this site. All other rights revert to the authors on July 15, 2011.
