If I change my name, is it still my memoir?

by Jacqueline
(Italy)

Dear Audrey,

can I write a memoir and change everyone's name, including my own? Or would it have to become fiction at this point, and have to follow the rules for writing a novel.

I don't feel I can use my own name or that of others, because we didn't always obey the law.

Thank you,
Jacqueline

Anonymous memoir
by: Audrey

It's difficult to imagine an anonymous memoir, which is what you would be writing.

I wonder what the purpose is of your project.

Fiction might be better to serve your purposes, but I can't say without more information, and of course, you have good reason not to want to post some of that information online.

Dear Audrey,

I haven't seen my comment posted on the Pesky Problem page. Did I not submit it correctly?

Thank you,
Jacqueline
