Create a theme. For eg: It was dark by now. Only a lamp or two were flickering on the roadside. Steve strolled around by the pavement, along the deserted road in that chilly winter evening. Such a theme attracts the reader and sets up a magical background as if he himself is Steve, walking on the road,lonely. It's a winter day when the sun has set. This is very important for a successful story.
